Stanford has been picked first or second in the Pac-12 in eight of the last nine seasons and has received at last one first place vote in each of the last nine preseason polls, dating back to 2014.
Earlier this month, the Cardinal was named No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, just behind Pac-12 rival Washington at No. 6. UCLA was the next-highest Pac-12 team in the national rankings, receiving votes in the first poll.
Washington (23) claimed it’s third-straight preseason favorite ranking along with four first place votes. UCLA (17) was voted third, with one first place vote.
Oregon State (15), California (8), and San Diego State (6) were voted fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively.
Stanford concluded the 2022 season at 12-2-6 and 4-2-4 in Pac-12 play. The Cardinal finished second in the conference behind Washington and finished the season as the No. 7 ranked team in the NCAA with 143 points in the final poll. Stanford ended its season in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Cardinal opens the 2023 campaign on Thursday, August 24 against No. 8 Creighton at home, with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. Stanford’s weekend will feature another ranked opponent, as No. 17 Georgetown visits The Farm on Sunday, August 27 at 1 p.m.
