Mangione Named to United Soccer Coaches Forwards to Watch List

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Penn State men’s soccer Senior Peter Mangione was selected to the United Soccer Coaches Forwards to Watch List as announced by the organization on Tuesday, Aug. 15. This marks Mangione’s second consecutive year earning a spot on this watch list.

The 32 male student-athletes selected as players to watch were chosen by the Division I All-America Committees. The list includes United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2022 who are scheduled to return for the 2023 season.

The two-time co-captain returns for his final season this fall in hopes of rounding out his already decorated career. After a successful freshman campaign in 2020, Mangione had a standout season in 2021, guiding the team to the Big Ten regular season and tournament title. The lethal forward earned himself a lengthy list of accolades including Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, first team All-Big Ten, All-Big Ten Tournament Team and first team All-North Region.

Mangione continued his success throughout the 2022 season and even before the official start of the season, landing on preseason watch lists. He was tabbed a Big Ten Player to Watch and was selected to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, the highest honor in collegiate soccer. The Maryland native concluded the 2022 campaign with first team All-Big Ten honors for the second consecutive year and earned a spot on second team All-North Region.

The four-year letter winner Mangione, along with the rest of the Nittany Lions kick off their season in just over one week as they take on in-state rival Pittsburgh on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
