Louisville’s professional soccer clubs are teaming up with prominent news anchor Dawne Gee and her 501(c)(3) nonprofit, “A Recipe to End Hunger,” for a pet food drive surrounding two upcoming games.

Fans are encouraged to drop donations to Gate 4 on their way into Lynn Family Stadium starting Saturday. Louisville City FC hosts Miami FC on “Pups at the Pitch” night, which permits ticket holders to bring their furry friends to the game.

The pet food drive will run through Racing Louisville FC’s Pups at the Pitch game on June 14. Outside of game day, the public can also deliver donations to the Lynn Family Stadium team store open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Gee, who recently turned 60, has worked more than half her life at WAVE, Louisville’s NBC affiliate. Her goal this milestone year is to celebrate by “blessing those in need in Kentucky and Southern Indiana like never before.”

Gee’s nonprofit originally launched to fight childhood hunger and has expanded priorities since the COVID-19 pandemic amid rising inflation. The goal is now to meet the needs of entire families, many that find themselves asking for assistance for the first time.

“Financial struggles have been overwhelming for many families over the last few years,” Gee said. “With inflation hitting an all-time high, so has the surrender of four-legged family members. Unfortunately, pets are often the first thing to go.

“People run out of money, so they feel like they have run out of options. I know Racing Louisville FC and Louisville City FC fans will bring the power of purple along with the love of their pups to let these families know they are not alone.”

LouCity and Racing are holding “Pups at the Pitch” games in partnership with Feeders Pet Supply for the second time this year. The first 500 fans in with their dogs will receive a free collapsable water bowl, and ticket proceeds benefit the Kentucky Humane Society.
