May 7, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Orange County SC News Release
Orange County SC dropped a 2-1 decision to San Diego Loyal SC in a hotly contested match at Championship Stadium in Irvine, CA that produced 18 combined yellow cards and one red card. Substitute forward Korede Osundina scored his first professional goal in stoppage time as the OCSC comeback fell just short.
San Diego opened the scoring in the 15th minute after forward Ronaldo Damus found forward Tumi Moshobane in close and rifled a shot that goalkeeper Cody Cropper got a hand to, but couldn’t keep all the way out.
The visitors quickly added to their lead in the 19th minute, as defender Alex Villanueva was whistled for a foul on San Diego midfielder Nick Moon in the box, and a penalty was given. Midfielder Joe Corona converted the penalty, making it 2-0 Loyal.
Midfielder Ashish Chattha had Orange County’s first chance of the night after midfielder Brian Iloski played him through on goal, but goalkeeper Koke Vegas kept Chattha off the scoresheet.
After already receiving a yellow card, Moon was shown his second yellow for a bad foul and ejected from the match after substitute forward Bryce Jamison burned past him on the right wing in the 95th minute.
On the ensuing free kick from forward Milan Iloski, Osundina was the one to rise above the crowd and head home the goal that gave OCSC a bit of hope for the remaining six minutes of stoppage time. The home side came close, but were unable to find the equalizer.
OCSC heads on the road next week, but will return home for two matches in one week, starting with Whisky Wednesday against Sacramento Republic FC on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:00 PM, presented by First Foundation.
