WHAT TO WATCH FOR

The Greenville Triumph will travel north on I-85 to face its closest geographic opponent, Charlotte Independence, this Wednesday. Dealt a difficult starting schedule, Greenville will face its second midweek match and fourth away match in the young season.

Greenville enters Wednesday’s match after falling to North Carolina FC in a tough 2-1 loss on Saturday. Despite the result, GTSC ended the game with a bright spot when rookie defender, Daniel Wu scored a beautiful header for his first professional goal. Now, 2-4-0 on the season, Greenville was bumped down to eighth in the League One standings following Saturday’s result.

Despite the short turnaround from Saturday, Greenville’s injury outlook continues to brighten. Brandon Fricke saw his first minutes of the season against NCFC, and Daniel Wu and Nate Shultz are available for tomorrow’s match after appearing on Saturday. With Tevin Shaw also potentially in the mix for the matchday lineup in Charlotte, GTSC’s back line should look more like the deep position group that’s historically one of the league’s best.

Charlotte Independence holds a 3-0-4 record this season. One match ahead of Greenville, Charlotte has tallied wins against Fuego FC, the Richmond Kickers and Tormenta FC, with draws against Richmond, NCFC, Union Omaha and Forward Madison. An early scoring surge pushed the Queen City team in its first two wins but their offense has lost some momentum as of late, only scoring one point in the last three matches. Greenville’s offense will be challenged to match any Charlotte scores, though, as the club has only allowed three goals so far this year.
