The second FA Cup semi-final of the weekend sees European hopefuls Brighton take on a wounded Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday.

The Seagulls last reached this stage in 2019 but have never won the competition, coming closest in 1983 when they lost to their upcoming opponents 4-0 in a replay after a 2-2 draw in the first game.

United exited the Europa League in limp fashion on Thursday night, losing 3-0 to Sevilla, and have a mountain of injuries to deal with as they seek a cup double.

Brighton team news

Robert De Zerbi has a few injury issues to contend with. Exciting young striker Evan Ferguson and defender Joel Veltman have both been sidelined for a few weeks, meaning Pascal Gross may play at right-back with Danny Welbeck up front.

Jason Steele will be assessed after missing the win at Chelsea, but the likes of Adam Lallana, Tariq Lamptey and Jeremy Sarmiento remain absent.

There could be a significant start for young Julio Enciso, who scored the winner over the Blues last time out.

(4-2-3-1): Sanchez; Gross, Colwill, Dunk, Estupinan; Mac Allister, Caicedo; March, Enciso, Mitoma; Welbeck.

Manchester United team news

Man Utd’s squad is being stretched thin during the final few months of the season.

Defenders Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are both injured while Harry Maguire is suspended, which could leave Victor Lindelof partnering Luke Shaw in central defence.

Anthony Martial came off injured in the defeat to Sevilla and will need to be assessed, as will Scott McTominay who has missed United’s last few games. Bruno Fernandes is at least available again after missing the midweek trip through suspension.

(4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Shaw, Dalot; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst.

Brighton have lost only two of their last ten games in all competitions – one being a slightly unfortunate trip to Tottenham. Their fluidity will cause plenty of problems for United, who are pretty far away from being able to field their strongest XI.

The Red Devils’ season is in danger of ending in disappointing fashion with consecutive cup exits and injuries ruling key players out.
