Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag wants the club to sign Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham, according to reports.
Ten Hag will be hopeful that either the Glazers or a new Red Devils ownership team will allow him the funds to strengthen his side in the summer transfer window.
Man Utd brought in Lisandro Martinez, Antony, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia, as well as Martin Dubravka – who has now returned to Newcastle – and a similar outlay would no doubt satisfy the Dutchman.
The Glazers reportedly have access to a ‘company credit card’ with a £300m limit and there shouldn’t be a lack of funds available even if the American owners stay.
And the Manchester Evening News have now claimed that Ten Hag’s ‘admiration for Bellingham during the World Cup was so great he told confidants if he could sign any player in the world it would be the England midfielder’.
Ten Hag ‘sees immense potential’ in Bellingham after watching him at the World Cup and for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
The Man Utd boss ‘would endorse a second United pitch to Bellingham’ who they tried to sign from Birmingham City before he agreed to join Dortmund in 2020.
Ten Hag ‘feels can create history’ and help Man Utd win their first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013 and retired from football management.
Man Utd, for obvious reasons, are prioritising a striker this summer with expectations they will spend at least £100m on a new striker of the calibre of Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Eintract Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.
The MEN hints that Man Utd are in the conversation for Bellingham but they admit Man City and Real Madrid ‘have to be favourites ahead of United for Bellingham’s signature’.
Liverpool were also in the race for the England international until reports surfaced on Tuesday that they had pulled out of a deal to sign Bellingham.
The soaring costs of signing Bellingham made their mind up with The Times reporting that Liverpool decided that using ‘a huge chunk of this summer’s funds to one player is no longer regarded by the club as the best strategy.’
Jurgen Klopp was said to be involved in the decision to bin their plans to sign Bellingham in favour of a squad ‘rebuild’.
