Pack’s Three Homers Secure Win at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Pack softball team defeated Syracuse, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Skytop Stadium. 

The Wolfpack (14-25, 5-9) started off with a bang as sophomore Hannah Goodwin slammed a ball over the left field wall to record her fifth homer of the season. The Pack finished the top half of the first with a 1-0 lead over the Orange. 

NC State was hot to open the third as junior Gracie Roberts hit her second career home run to center field to lead off. Freshman MaKayla Marbury then singled up the middle and later made her way to third in hopes of adding a third run to the board. Amanda Hasler and Katlyn Pavlick were then walked, loading the bases for Haley Haislip. With a 2-2 count, the junior grounded a ball to third and the ball made it to first before her to bring up the third out. The Pack ended the inning with two hits. 

The Orange attempted to get one in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, but after singling to left, Kelly Breen attempted to make it to second. She was out at second after Rebecca Murray threw to Taylor Ensley who tagged her out. 

After the Pack picked up two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Orange managed to get two into scoring position after a double by Breen. Yamila Evans took the box for Syracuse and lined out to Marbury at short, ending their chance of getting on the board. 

Murray led the team off in the seventh inning and drilled a ball over the left field wall to pick up her sixth homer of the season. The…
