Liverpool, United, Arsenal all have ‘specific interest’ in midfielder with two clubs ‘already negotiating’

Alexis Mac Allister playing for Brighton

Alexis Mac Allister is a transfer target for three of ‘The Big Six’, with Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal all interested in the Brighton midfielder.

Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claimed on Twitter yesterday that Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United all have ‘specific interest’ in the Premier League player.

Merlo added that two of the three clubs have already started negotiating with Mac Allister, but did not specify which of the three that may be.

The journalist said: “Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have specific interest in signing Alexis Mac Allister in the next transfer window. Two of those clubs are already negotiating for the Brighton footballer.

“His father and agent are in England monitoring the situation.”

No price has been set for Mac Allister yet, but any fee would surely be extremely high.

The Argentinian’s stock has never been higher, he was a crucial part of his country’s World Cup win last December, playing a part in all but the first game and assisting in the final as Argentina beat France on penalties.

Mac Allister is also enjoying a stellar campaign for his club, scoring eight goals and recording one assist as Brighton make a surprise charge for the Champions League spots.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are in desperate need of a midfield revamp, with long term absentee Thiago still out of action and Jordan Henderson and Fabinho looking increasingly overwhelmed in the centre of the park.

A midfielder with the amount of energy, creativity and skill that Mac Allister possess would be a huge addition at Anfield, but with the club stuck in the middle of the Premier League, the bargaining chip of Champions League football is looking increasingly unlikely to be on the table.

Brighton have also become renowned for their stern negotiations and will not let their highly rated player leave on the cheap, especially considering he still has two years left on his current deal, with the option of a third.

Fabrizio Romano seemed to confirm Mac Allister’s desire to leave this summer and indicated that Brighton won’t sell their star for cheap.

Writing for CaughtOffside in February, Romano said: ‘I’m told Alexis Mac Allister has chances to leave in the summer as he’d love a top club move, but Brighton guarantee they’ve not fixed a price tag yet and I guess is going to be another big fight to sign Brighton star in the summer.”
