Timbers Fall Short to LAFC with 3-2 Road Result

PORTLAND, Ore. – A stoppage-time goal from newly-signed forward Franck Boli helped the Portland Timbers earn a road point against FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night. Making his MLS debut as a second-half substitute in the 86th minute, Boli fired a right-footed shot into the lower left corner of the goal to level the score in tonight’s road match.


Dream Debut for Boli

Boli, who was signed by the Timbers on March 13, made his MLS debut tonight as a second-half substitute in the 86th minute. The forward scored his first career goal for the Timbers just five minutes after coming into the match, delivering instant impact to help the Timbers level the match tonight. Boli became the 11th player to score in their debut for Portland in its MLS era.

Tonight’s Notables

Dairon Asprilla made his season debut today after coming back from an injury. In his 159th appearance with the Timbers, Asprilla tallied his 13th assist for Portland in tonight’s match. Diego Chara tallied his 30th assist for the Timbers tonight, tying him with Darlington Nagbe for the third-most assists in club history. D. Chara is one of two players to play every minute of every match this season alongside Dario Zuparic. Eric Miller earned his first start for Portland, marking his 160th MLS regular-season appearance.

Goal-Scoring Plays

DAL – Facundo Quignon (Geovane Jesus), 74th minute: Jesus Ferreira served a rebounded ball in from a sequence that started on a corner kick play. Off an attempt to clear the ball from the box, Ferreira placed the ball for Facundo Quignon in the middle of the 18-yard box to finish with a right-footed shot into the lower right corner of the goal.

POR – Franck Boli (Dairon Asprilla, Diego Chara), 90+1 minute: D. Chara sent a long ball from the middle of the field and into the right flank of the 18-yard box where Asprilla cut the ball back with a right-foot touch towards the top of the box. Boli beat a Dallas defender to the ball and fired a left-footed ball on his first touch into the lower left corner of the goal to find the back of the net.

Notes

The Timbers earned a consecutive draw tonight after their 0-0 shutout draw against LA Galaxy on March 25.

Portland will be back on the road next week to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC on April 8 at BC Place.
