Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly keen to make Liverpool target Paul Mitchell his director of football at Man Utd if his ‘takeover is successful’.
Mitchell has made waves as a head of recruitment at various clubs. He has held that role at MK Dons, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and RB Leipzig.
He has been AS Monaco’s sporting director since 2020 and he has been heavily involved in their rebuild over the past couple of years.
The 41-year-old has been lauded for the work he has done over the years and he has confirmed that he will leave Monaco at the end of this season.
“Yes, it was a very difficult decision,” Mitchell told Nice Matin. “I loved my experience at this club. I have always felt a lot of support from President Dmitry Rybolovlev and the Principality.
“But I have spent a lot of time away from home and my loved ones in recent years. I feel that the mission I had, which was to rebuild the sports project, has been fulfilled.”

The Independent are reporting that Mitchell has been ‘earmarked for a role in any INEOS football structure at Manchester United, should the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-led consortium buy the club’.
Mitchell is ‘looking for a return to England’ and Liverpool have also been keen on him. The report adds.
‘There had been initial explorations from Liverpool for Mitchell to become their sporting director as they undergo an overhaul of staff around Jurgen Klopp but it has now been clarified he is out of the running.
‘The Anfield club have faced an upheaval in their technical staff over the last year, with Michael Edwards leaving in the summer and Julian Ward now set to follow – but could now find themselves in competition for major figures with United.’
Ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has claimed that the Raine group (the investment banking firm handling the takeover) are “using the media to create competitive tension”.
