Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has been told that he has “not been good enough” this season when he has played through the middle.
The forward was among the players Liverpool signed during last summer’s transfer window. The Reds paid an initial fee of around £64m and this could rise to £85m with add-ons.
Nunez has split opinion this season. The Uraguay international is still clearly a raw talent and has missed a lot of chances.
But he clearly has a lot of ability and he should prove to be a brilliant signing. He has been wasteful in front of goal but he has still managed to score 14 goals in 33 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.
Ex-Reds forward Djibril Cisse has taken aim at Nunez, though. He does not think the attacker “has been good enough” when playing up front.

Despite this, Cisse feels Liverpool’s rebuild should be centred around Nunez, Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo.
“The rebuild at Liverpool depends on who they can buy in the transfer window. There is quality in the squad, but it could just be a cycle and some of the players might want something new coming into the team,” Cisse added.
“The new players need time to adapt – a few more transfers will help. But to build around players – or young players – that have just arrived I don’t think it will be the case. Building around Salah, Nunez, Gakpo for sure.”
Liverpool are set for a rebuild this summer with signings expected in various positions.
Jurgen Klopp recently penned a contract extension until 2026 so he will see out this process. But Cisse thinks club legend Steven Gerrard should eventually replace the German as the ex-Aston Villa boss is “going to be a really good manager”.
“I still think Gerrard’s got it in him and he’s going to be a really good manager. He’s a great leader and it will be great to see him back leading a team. In my world, I would love to see Steven Gerrard take over…
