Ancelotti Doubts Disallowed Real Madrid Goal in Clasico Defeat

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti says he doubts the decision to disallow Marco Asensio’s goal for offside in Sunday’s 2-1 Clasico loss to Barcelona.

The Blaugrana put one hand on the La Liga trophy with the win courtesy of Franck Kessie’s 92nd minute winner, moving 12 points clear at the top.

But Los Blancos thought they had the lead with 10 minutes to go when Asensio poked home Dani Carvajal’s low cross into the box, only for it to be overturned upon video review for a tight offside call.

“You have to accept (the decision) but I’m left with doubt,” Ancelotti told reporters. “Surely there is nothing. We have the right to have that doubt.

“We played a good game, we deserved to win, it was won. Then there is the question of this goal that was disallowed.

“We tried everything at the end, we lost a bit of balance and they scored.

“The game was very good, we leave with the confidence that we can finish the season well.”

Barcelona boss Xavi was less than impressed with Ancelotti’s claims of doubts, insisting it was a clear decision.

“Doubts about the offside? Man, it’s clear,” he said. “It’s offside or it’s not.”

“I am surprised that Ancelotti has doubts about the disallowed goal, because it is a scientific question.

“It is clearly offside and there is no doubt. If today they talk about VAR it’s scandalous. Offside is very clear.”
