Ten Hag Explains Unchanged Man Utd Line-up After Liverpool Rout

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was delighted with his side’s response to Sunday’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool after overcoming Real Betis 4-1 in the Europa League on Thursday.

United put one foot into the Europa League quarter-finals with the first leg win at Old Trafford, with strikes from Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst.

Betis had squared the game up at half-time with Ayoze Perez equalizing Rashford’s sixth-minute strike but the Red Devils were far too strong in the second-half.

It marked an impressive turnaround after being humiliated by Liverpool on Sunday.

“It was a good attitude, from the start,” Ten Hag told reporters. “Front foot, we were good on the ball, finding spare men in the midfield.

“We made good switches, we made good runs in behind and created a lot of chances so yes, we are happy today.”

Ten Hag fielded the exact same starting line-up against Betis to that which faced Liverpool on Sunday, despite saying that result couldnt be tolerated.

“They get the opportunity for rehabilitation, but we looked to this game, this is the most important game and we picked the team to give us the best chance of winning the game,” Ten Hag explained.

“We lowered our standards in the last couple of games. Sunday we got hammered for in the second half and we have to get back to our standards, values, demands and that’s what we have to bring on the pitch.

“We need high standards because we want to win.”
