Pack Splits Afternoon, Inks Record Book

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team split its doubleheader with NC Central on Wednesday, winning game one 19-9, before falling in game two, 10-3. 

Game one of the afternoon recorded the third most runs scored in a single game (19) in program history.

The Eagles jumped out to an early leader after Ivory Jones hit a three-run home run. The Wolfpack quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. 

To begin the bottom of the first, graduate Rebecca Murray led the Pack off with a double to center field and she advanced to third on the throw. The next two Pack batters got out and MaKayla Marbury was hit by a pitch before stealing second. With two on base, Nadia Sykes stepped up to the plate and was walked by the Eagles. Freshman Amanda Hasler stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and singled down the left-field line. Her hit brought two home to get the Pack on the board and minimize the Eagles’ lead. Senior Libby Whittaker was sixth in the Wolfpack’s lineup and reached on an error by the Eagles second baseman before she advanced to second on the throw. The play brought two more home for the Pack and gave them the lead, 4-3. 

Hailey Batista led off the Eagles with a homer to left field to start the third and tie the game, 4-4. NC State ended their scoring attempts despite the Eagles recording three hits in the inning. 

The first two batters in the Wolfpack’s lineup were walked and advanced to the next base on a wild pitch. Graduate Katlyn Pavlick reached on a fielder’s choice, loading the bases for Sykes. With a 2-2 count, the…
