Must-win games for Blues after Leeds victory

Reece James, Salih Oezcan

Chelsea picked up their first win in seven games with their 1-0 victory against Leeds, but they’ll need plenty more of those if they want to salvage their campaign.

Graham Potter has struggled immensely since taking over from Thomas Tuchel with the club out of the FA Cup and only just inside the top half of the Premier League.

Here are the games they need to win the most to take some success out of this stinker of a season.

Chelsea‘s only remaining chance of tasting some real success this season is in the Champions League, but they’ll need to produce one of their best performances in a long time if they want to keep that chance alive.

They lost the first leg 1-0 against a Borussia Dortmund side that have won their last 11 matches and currently look like one of the best teams around. If Potter lets them make it 12 victories in a row, it could be the last thing he does as Chelsea manager.

Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for European football this season currently look as slim as the chances of Todd Boehly displaying some basic footballing knowledge, but a win against fellow strugglers Liverpool could change that.

Barring a barrage of shock results, it probably wouldn’t be enough to give them hope of a Champions League spot, but it could give them a real chance of qualifying for the Europa League, and that’s better than nothing.

Chelsea aren’t just trailing the usual suspects in the race for European football, but the former club of their manager too with Brighton ahead of them.

If Potter/s still there, a loss against his old employers could do a lot more damage than just hurting his pride for both his own career and his current club.

Brentford are another club punching above their weight and another Chelsea will probably have to beat if they want to play in one of UEFA’s competitions next season.

Things went disastrously for the Blues when the side last met at Stamford Bridge, in April of last year, with the visitors running out 4-1 winners.
