Arteta Declines to Declare Arsenal as Title Favourites Yet

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta declined to declare his side title favourites after they re-opened their five-point lead with a 4-0 home win over lowly Everton on Wednesday.

Gabriel Martinelli netted a double while Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard also scored in the win.

The Gunners have overcome their recent stutter, including a 3-1 home loss to second-placed Manchester City, to win three straight games and move clear again with 13 games to go.

“You know my answer there,” Arteta replied when asked if Arsenal are now title favourites.

“What I like is that everybody has the enthusiasm to do it, and were not going to stop that – we have to promote that but the way to promote that is by looking at this game and understanding that we have to do a lot of things better, especially in the first half.

“We can play better and make sure we prepare really well against Bournemouth because thats going to be a tough game.”

The Spaniard hailed his side’s mental resilience, having managed only one point in three games, giving up the title lead briefly to City, before restoring their advantage.

“When you look at them every single day, you just feel how much they want it, how much they really want to produce what we ask them to do and how much they want to please our people,” he said.

“I had no doubts that we were going to turn things around in performances and results in the small details that make you win or not win, but I am really pleased with where the team is right now.”

Arsenal had a concern with 72nd minute substitute Eddie Nketiah limping off late.

“Hopefully he is fine, he ended the game well but he has been carrying a little thing,” he said.
