Special edition El Trafico rescheduled for July 4

The season-opener between LAFC and LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 4.

The special edition El Trafico was originally scheduled for February 25, to kick off the 2023 Major League Soccer campaign, but inclement weather and forecasted thunderstorms in the Los Angeles area forced the postponement.

“Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy and LAFC today announced that the 2023 MLS Regular Season match scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 25 between the LA Galaxy and LAFC at Rose Bowl Stadium will be postponed to a later date,” said the league on Friday.

“Tickets originally purchased for Saturday’s opener will be honored for the rescheduled match date. Additional ticketing information will be released by the Galaxy today.”

The Galaxy’s home match against St. Louis CITY SC, originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 4, has now been rescheduled for Sunday, September 10 at Dignity Health Sports Park to accommodate the new El Trafico date.

LAFC will now kick off the 2023 campaign on March 4, when hosting the Portland Timbers, while LA Galaxy travels to Toyota Stadium to face FC Dallas.

The special edition of El Trafico would have broken Major League Soccer single-game attendance records, after both teams confirmed more than 70,000 tickets were sold for the event. Charlotte FC currently holds the honor, after hosting 74,479 fans at Bank of America Stadium for their season-opener against LA Galaxy in 2022.
