Neymar Set For Further Scans on Ankle Injury

Neymar Set For Further Scans on Ankle Injury

Neymar has avoided an ankle fracture but Paris Saint-Germain will be sweating on the results of scans after going off injured in Sunday’s 4-3 win over Lille.

The Brazilian was stretchered off in the second half after copping a blow to his right ankle in the win.

Neymar’s fitness is a major concern for PSG head of the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash with Bayern Munich, having lost the first leg 1-0 at home.

“Victim of a sprained ankle during the match against Lille, Neymar underwent an MRI (on Sunday),” the PSG medical update read.

“This did not reveal a fracture. A new ligament assessment will be carried out in 48 hours.”

PSG boss Christophe Galtier claimed that the Brazilian’s injury was caused by their recent hectic fixture.

“No, it’s not bad luck,” he said. “There are always reasons for injuries: the schedule, the sequence of games. There is no chance (it’s luck only).

“Of course, it complicates things and that’s the way it is. We have to keep our heads down.

“We’re going to do it again, but with a victory. That’s more pleasant.”

PSG have played 12 games in all competitions since the World Cup break.
