LOS ANGELES – Playing their final match of the 2023 preseason, the LA Galaxy earned a 2-1 win over Toronto FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night. Efraín Álvarez recorded his fourth goal of the preseason and Mark Delgado scored the game-winning goal, while Riqui Puig tallied two assists in the win over Toronto.
2023 MLS Regular Season
Next up, the LA Galaxy will open up the 2023 MLS Regular Season at Rose Bowl Stadium against LAFC in the 17th edition across all competitions of El Tráfico on Saturday, Feb. 25 (6:30 p.m. PT) live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app. The Galaxy played their first-ever MLS regular-season match at Rose Bowl Stadium in a 2-1 win over the New York/New Jersey MetroStars on April 13, 1996. In 107 all-time regular-season and playoff games played at Rose Bowl Stadium, the Galaxy hold a combined record of 86-32-9 record (.713 win percentage).
2023 LA Galaxy Preseason
In seven preseason matches played in 2023, the LA Galaxy held a 3-3-1 record (12 GF, 12 GA). On Jan. 24, the Galaxy earned a 3-2 win over D.C. United behind goals from Riqui Puig, Efraín Álvarez and a stoppage-time game-winning goal by Preston Judd at Dignity Health Sports Park. On Jan. 28, the LA Galaxy and Charlotte FC played to a 1-1 draw, with Riqui Puig tallying a penalty-kick goal in the draw at home against Charlotte. The Galaxy fell 2-1 to New York City FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Feb. 4, while LA defeated Toronto 2-1 at home on Feb. 18. Álvarez led the Galaxy with four goals scored during the 2023 preseason.
2023 Coachella Valley Invitational Recap
In three Coachella Valley Invitational matches played this preseason, LA held a 1-2-0 record (5 GF, 6 GA). In their first match at the Empire Polo Club on Feb. 8, the Galaxy earned a 4-1 win over St. Louis CITY SC behind a brace from Álvarez and goals from Dejan Joveljić and Mark Delgado. Four days later, LA fell 4-1 to the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Feb. 12. The Galaxy wrapped up preseason action at the Coachella Valley Invitational with a 1-0 defeat to New York on Feb. 15.
