Ronald Araujo names two players he wants Barcelona to sign

Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo has admitted he wants the Blaugrana to secure a reunion with Lionel Messi as part of his dream summer transfer window.

Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in the summer, although he does have the option to extend that by a further year and the French side remain locked in talks over a possible extension which would end talk of a return to Barcelona.

Until he puts pen to paper on a new deal, Messi‘s future will remain up in the air and Araujo confessed he wants to see the Argentine icon run it back at Camp Nou once again.

“Obviously [Messi] is a player that everyone wants in the team, [his return] would be something tremendous, something special, I don’t know how things will turn out but of course we would love it,” Araujo told Jijantes.

Given the chance to sign a second player to his hypothetical Barcelona side, the centre-back added: namedropped Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur with a simple message: “I would sign Bentancur.”

A fellow Uruguay international, Bentancur has just seen an impressive season with Tottenham brought to an abrupt end because of an ACL injury, for which he will undergo surgery in the coming days.

While Barcelona do plan to try and bolster their squad in the summer transfer window, they must first find a way to navigate La Liga’s salary cap.

President Joan Laporta recently confirmed the club have already trimmed €100m from the annual wage budget they inherited and revealed that the plan is to offload a further €75m in wages by the time the 2023.24 season begins.
