MBFC Signs Defender Max Glasser

2023 Regular Season Mini Plans Available Now

February 14, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Monterey Bay FC News Release

SEASIDE, Calif. – Monterey Bay F.C. announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defender Max Glasser on a one-year contract, pending league and federation approval. The 22-year-old adds depth at fullback for the Crisp and Kelp ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season.

Glasser began the preseason on trial with the Union after catching the eye of Monterey Bay F.C. Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop at the Path2Pro combine this past January. He then made the start in the club’s preseason opener against MLS side San Jose Earthquakes and played his way into the picture with an impressive display at left back.

“Max has had a very good preseason so far and handled the match against the Earthquakes well,” said Yallop. “You wouldn’t know it was his first game. He works hard and has fit in nicely with the squad. Max has exceptional speed and will bring a lot of versatility.”

From Novato, California, Glasser played collegiately for UC Davis from 2018-2022. He recorded three goals and 10 assists in 4,955 minutes across 71 appearances (56 starts) in four seasons with the Aggies, including the game-winning goal against Santa Clara in 2018. In addition to earning All-Big West Conference honors in three of his four seasons (2019, 2021, 2022), Glasser was twice named to the Big West Conference All-Academic Team (2019, 2021). As a junior, Glasser was one of two Aggies to start every match of the season and recorded a career high six assists – three of which came in consecutive matches before assisting on an equalizer in the Big West Conference Tournament quarterfinal.

“I’ve been here for about two weeks now and I am loving it here, it’s a beautiful area,” said Glasser. “I am excited to be here. Frank [Yallop] is a super accomplished coach who played his career as an attacking fullback. I just want to learn from him, learn from the team and get a lot better moving forward. The match was trial by fire a little bit, I started at left back going up against [Cristian] Espinoza and I thought I held my own. It was kind of like an out-of-body experience being thrown in there, but I played my game and I enjoyed the challenge. My goal is to keep that form moving forward, earn some time on the field and help the team get into the playoffs.”
