TUCSON – The Wolfpack dropped both games on day two of the Candrea Classic hosted by Arizona.
NC State 4, Kansas 12 (5 innings)
The Wolfpack started the final meeting with the Jayhawks with momentum.
With the Pack batting first, Rebecca Murray and Kaylee Lambrecht both recorded a hit to open the game and get NC State on base. MaKayla Marbury was then hit by a pitch, forcing bases to be loaded with Madison Inscoe on deck. Inscoe drilled one into Kansas left fielder’s glove, but Murray scored to give the Pack the early lead.
Sophomore Taylor Ensley singled to right center field, allowing Lambrecht to cross home and make it 2-0. Ensley then stole second and Hannah Goodwin singled to center field, bringing two across home plate.
The Pack ended the top of the first with a 4-0 lead over Kansas, with Goodwin leading the Pack with two RBI’s.
Kansas found a spark in the bottom of the third, bringing in seven runs to take the lead over the Wolfpack. After Savanna DesRochers flew one out to Katlyn Pavlick’s glove, Ashlyn Anderson hit a home run to right center field to start the Jayhawks scoring for the inning.
The Pack struggled to regain momentum after the Jayhawks took the lead. Play in game one ended in the bottom of the fifth after DesRochers drilled a ball past the center field fence to record a three-run homer.
