PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Seniors Allison Lynch and Grace Walter of Rutgers women’s soccer have announced they will return to the Scarlet Knights for their final year of eligibility as graduate students “On the Banks.”
Both members of the historic 2021 roster than won Rutgers’ first Big Ten title with an undefeated 10-0 jaunt through the conference schedule before making a run to the NCAA College Cup, Lynch and Walter are prepping for 2023 seeking graduate degrees and more championships.
“Coming back to play another season here at Rutgers was an easy decision,” Lynch said. “There is no limit to what this team can accomplish, and I can’t wait to continue to chase more titles with my family.”
“Rutgers has been my home away from home these past four years,” Walter said. “I could not pass up the opportunity to come back and play with these women for one more year. Coming back for my fifth year was a no-brainer and I can’t wait to go ring chasing again in the fall!”
Lynch has been an anchor on the backline for the past four years, providing leadership through example and through guidance. Lynch has 82 matches played with nearly 6,900 minutes of effort during the Scarlet Knights’ successful run since her freshman season in 2019. The Bridgewater, New Jersey native has chipped in three goals and three assists from her defensive position, while shutting down opposing offenses in 41 shutouts since the beginning of 2019. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree will earn a degree in public health from Rutgers this spring.
Walter, a goalkeeper from Hainesport, New Jersey, has been an integral part of the program over the past four years, contributing to a nationally recognized goalkeeping corps and diligently challenging every field player to come through the program in training since 2019. She has 19 scoreless minutes of action in net at Rutgers. She earned a third consecutive Academic All-Big Ten honor last fall and will graduate with a degree in public health in the spring before pursuing a master’s degree in applied psychology with a focus on sports psychology.
The 2022 season started with historic momentum as the team began a campaign with three matches away from home and won them all for the first time in program history, leading to the team’s best start to a season at 9-0-0 and a program-record, 20-match…
