LouCity Sends Academy Grad Sanchez out on League One Loan

LouCity Sets Preseason Schedule against MLS, USL Foes

February 7, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Louisville City FC News Release

Louisville City FC and Union Omaha have agreed to a loan deal sending defender Sebastian Sanchez to the USL League One club for the 2023 season, it was announced Tuesday.

LouCity retains a right to recall Sanchez. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This represents a great opportunity for Sebastian to continue his development,” said LouCity’s head coach, Danny Cruz. “Omaha is a club well known for its quality. We know Sebastian’s in good hands there, and we look forward to seeing the player he becomes on the other side of the loan spell.”

Sanchez, 19, has reported to Nebraska-based Union Omaha for its preseason training. Launched in 2020, the club has excelled on the pitch, winning the League One title in 2021 before a 2022 U.S. Open Cup run highlighted by upsets of Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire and Minnesota United.

“Sebastian has been in a changing room that knows how to win,” said Union Omaha’s coach, Dominic Casciato, “and he has a great mentality, so I’m looking forward to seeing him compete with our more experienced center backs over the course of the year. We’re thankful to Danny Cruz at Louisville for sending Sebastian to us as he enters an important phase of his career.”

Sanchez signed his first professional deal last April and spent a brief loan stint at League One’s South Georgia Tormenta FC. He returned to LouCity over the summer and debuted as a sub in an Oct. 1 victory at Rio Grande Valley FC.

Sanchez, the son of LouCity Academy Director Mario Sanchez, attended Ballard High School, where he was an all-state selection. He’s one of five City first teamers to have turned pro out of the club’s youth academy joining brothers Elijah and Josh Wynder, Carlos Moguel Jr. and Owen Damm.
