Stroud Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, 16 Blue Devils Named to 2022 All-ACC Academic Team

DURHAM – The men’s soccer team had 16 players selected to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team, led by Peter Stroud who was selected as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

Stroud finished his junior season as a finalist for the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy and was named First-Team All-ACC and United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-America. The Chester, N.J., native became the first player in league history to win back-to-back ACC Midfielder of the Year honors after leading the Blue Devils to their first undefeated regular season since 1999. A political science major, this is Stroud’s third consecutive selection to the All-ACC Academic Team. After the season, Stroud elected to forego his remaining collegiate eligibility and signed an MLS Homegrown contract with the New York Red Bulls.

The Blue Devils and Virginia led the league in All-ACC Academic selections this year, with 16 each. Eliot Hamill joined Stroud with his third career honor and four other Duke players became two-time All-ACC Academic selections – Antino Lopez, Ruben Mesalles, Shakur Mohammed and Nick Pariano.

10 Blue Devils earned their first career All-ACC Academic honor – Kamran Acito, Felix Barajas, Wayne Frederick, Axel Gudbjornsson, Kenan Hot, Cameron Kerr, Drew Kerr, Miguel Ramirez, Scotty Taylor and Luke Thomas.

Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.

Duke finished its 2022 season in the national quarterfinals and ended the year with a 13-2-4 (5-0-3) record.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
