Duke’s Stroud Leads 2022 All-ACC Academic Men’s Soccer Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke junior midfielder Peter Stroud was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 2022 Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads the 2022 All-ACC Academic Men’s Soccer Team, which was announced Wednesday by the league office.

A native of Chester, New Jersey, Stroud was a finalist for the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy and earned First-Team All-ACC and United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-America honors during the 2022 season. He also was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive year after leading the Blue Devils to their first undefeated regular season since 1999. A political science major, Stroud was selected to the All-ACC Academic Team for the third straight season. After the season, Stroud signed an MLS Homegrown contract with the New York Red Bulls.

The five ACC season award winners each earned spots on the All-ACC Academic Team: Stroud (Midfielder of the Year), Duke’s Shakur Mohammed (Offensive Player of the Year), Virginia’s Andreas Ueland (Defensive Player of the Year), Duke’s Eliot Hamill (Goalkeeper of the Year) and Duke’s Kamran Acito (Freshman of the Year).

Eight of the ACC’s 2023 MLS SuperDraft selections are featured on the All-ACC Academic Team, including three first-round selections: Mohammed, Pitt’s Bertin Jacquesson and Syracuse’s Abdi Salim. The All-ACC Academic Team also features Syracuse’s Nathan Opoku, who signed a contract Tuesday with Leicester City of the English Premier League after helping the Orange to the program’s first national championship in December.

Pitt’s Jackson Walti and Virginia’s Andreas Ueland each were named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in their careers.

Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
