Forest have moved for the former Liverpool player after finding themselves light in midfield due to the absence of Ryan Yates and Cheikhou Kouyate.
Shelvey’s contract at St James’ Park was due to expire at the end of the season, which has led Steve Cooper’s side to move in for the midfielder.
The 30-year-old has made just three Premier League appearances for the Magpies this year after falling down the pecking order at the Tyneside club.

On top of Shelvey and Wood, Forest have also added Brazilian pair Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa and are also chasing a goalkeeper, a centre-back and a winger before Tuesday’s deadline.
Former Porto centre-back Felipe joined Atletico Madrid in 2019, making 85 appearances for the LaLiga side.
Forest have opened their own talks with the Spanish club, in a bid to add Felipe to their long list of new recruits since returning to the Premier League for the first time in over two decades.
