Halifax, NS – The Canadian Premier League has released the schedule for the 2023 season. The Halifax Wanderers will play back-to-back road games to kick off the year, starting on Saturday, April 15, against Atletico Ottawa and then a visit to Valour FC on Sunday, April 22.
Halifax’s home opener will be on Saturday, April 29, against expansion side Vancouver FC in their first ever visit to the Wanderers Grounds. The Wanderers will then play two more games on the road before returning home on Saturday, May 20 to host York United. After two more road matches. Halifax returns home for back-to-back games on Saturday June 10 vs Valour FC and Saturday, June 17 vs Cavalry FC.
“We are excited to kick off a new era for the club after a busy offseason,” Wanderers Founder and President Derek Martin said. “Both our squad and our pitch will benefit from some time to grow in the early part of the season before once again establishing the Grounds as the most enjoyable and difficult place to play in Canada.”
Each CPL team will play each other four times throughout the season, twice at home and twice away, for a 28-game schedule.
The Wanderers will also participate in the first round of the Canadian Championship, which runs from April 18 to 20. Halifax will learn its opponent during the tournament draw on Tuesday, January 31 (9 p.m. ET, live on OneSoccer).
Halifax closes out the regular season home schedule against Atletico Ottawa on September 30.
Notes:
Nine of the Wanderers’ 14 CPL home matches will be played on a Saturday afternoon with two more played in the afternoon on Holiday Mondays: Natal Day on Monday, August 7 vs Pacific FC and Labour Day, Monday, September 4 vs York United FC.
Additionally, there will be three night games this season on Friday, June 30 (Forge FC), Tuesday, July 11 (Pacific FC), and Wednesday, September 13 (Vancouver FC).
In the first half of the 28-game season, the Wanderers play six matches at home and eight on the road with then eight matches at home and six on the road in the second half of the season.
