Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club and its uniform partner, hummel North America, awarded Upstate student and soccer standout, Kacie Grijalva with a $1000 college scholarship in a ceremony at Gaffney High School on Wednesday. Grijalva is an active member of the Gaffney varsity soccer team, Spartanburg United youth soccer academy and plans to play in college.

The scholarship, which hummel and the club created as part of their partnership, will be awarded annually for the next three years. Grijalva is the second member of Spartanburg United to receive the honor after submitting an essay for the scholarship.

“We’re so proud of what Kacie has done,” said Fred Bertha, Spartanburg United Soccer Club CEO. “She’s played with our club’s high school-aged team for a few years, and this fall she’ll be graduating and hoping to play at Southern Methodist College. She is Spartanburg United – she’s what we represent and what we do. We’re proud of her and thankful for everything the Triumph and hummel have done to bring this together.”

Grijalva plans on majoring in business and attending Southern Methodist College this fall. She hopes to own her own business after college and is already on course to earn her cosmetology degree by graduation.

“I didn’t expect to be picked, but I’m so excited and overwhelmed,” said Grijalva. “Playing for Spartanburg United was a really good experience, and I’m very thankful for the opportunities they have given me!”

The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club kicks off its fifth season on March 25th at Paladin Stadium on the campus of Furman University. The Greenville Liberty women’s team will begin its second season later this spring.
