Chelsea seek ‘cheap’ loan deal for unexpected West Ham striker amid injury crisis

Reported Chelsea target Michail Antonio celebrates his goal with his West Ham teammates

West Ham have rejected a ‘cheap’ loan offer from Chelsea for Michail Antonio, according to reports.

The Blues are struggling with a lot of injuries at this moment in time.

Armando Broja suffered a long-term knee injury in a friendly last month, while Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling are also out.

With several attacking players out and the available ones struggling on the pitch, the Blues have been active in the transfer market.

After a huge spending spree last summer, Todd Boehly has already spent over £130million this month.

Chelsea beat Arsenal to the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk, signing the Ukrainian winger from Shakhtar Donetsk for around £88m.

Joao Felix was also brought in from Atletico Madrid for an £11m loan fee but was sent off on his debut, making him unavailable for three games, one of which has been played.

And with Kai Havertz leading the line ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Potter tried to bring in Antonio.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea made a shock loan offer to sign the 32-year-old until the end of the season.

Yes, Chelsea’s injury crisis was so bad they tried to sign Antonio, with all due respect.

The Jamaican international is a fine footballer, but this is still a very bizarre one.

The report claims the Blues ‘enquired’ about Antonio, asking West Ham if they could sign him on loan for the remainder of 2022/23.

Chelsea tried to strike a ‘cheap’ deal, but were ultimately unsuccessful.

The Hammers ‘rejected’ the offer as they do not want to loan out the striker, though it is said they would be open to selling him.

There is ‘interest’ from Premier League rivals Wolves, who are in dire need of a new striker.

Earlier this month, the Molineux club signed Matheus Cunha for a whopping £44.4m from Atletico Madrid.

Cunha is not a natural out-and-out striker, while Raul Jimenez has struggled for form ever since returning from a serious head injury.

Wolves brought Diego Costa back to the Premier League in September, but the former Chelsea talisman is yet to score a goal for his new club.

He has, however, received a red card in one of his nine appearances, which is all we wanted from the feisty Spaniard, really.

Costa scored 59 times in 120 matches for Chelsea during his spell at the club, but this was during his prime and his ability is now a far cry from his days at Stamford Bridge.
