PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – In the fourth round of Thursday night’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) draft at the Philadelphia Convention Center, San Diego Wave FC selected Giovanna DeMarco with the 45th overall pick.
 
With DeMarco’s selection, Wake Forest has had a player drafted in five-consecutive NWSL drafts. Additionally, DeMarco marks the seventh Demon Deacon drafted in the last four years and the ninth overall.

  • Tallied 29 career points over a five-year career, racking up 11 goals and seven assists, including four game winners.
  • 3x All-ACC Academic Team (2018, 2019 and 2021), 3x Team Captain (2020, 2021 and 2022) and 2018 ACC All-Freshman Team.
  • Earned 5,721 minutes of action over 74 games and 69 starts.

    • She spent time in defense, midfield and in attack.

  • In 2022, she finished third on the team in points (10), despite spending most of her time as a defensive midfielder and center back.

    • She finished one goal behind the team lead with four, including the game winner in the 1-0 defeat of Maryland.

  • Helped the Demon Deacons to eight shutouts in her 16 starts in 2022.
  • As a freshman, finished second on the team with 11 points (four goals and three assists) and scored two game winning goals, including the lone strike against Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
