Besiktas set out two demands before Weghorst can complete Man Utd transfer

Man Utd target Wout Weghorst looks annoyed

Turkish side Besiktas are willing to help facilitate Wout Weghorst’s move to Man Utd on two conditions, according to reports.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new striker in the January transfer window after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club by mutual consent in November.

His controversial interview with Piers Morgan saw Man Utd agreed to his departure with the Portugal international joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

That has left Man Utd with just Marcus Rashford – who is in brilliant form – and injury-prone Anthony Martial as their only two recognisable strikers.

Numerous players have been linked already with Burnley striker Weghorst’s name emerging at the end of last week as a potential target.

Foot Mercato reported that Man Utd are ‘close to signing’ the Netherlands international after the 30-year-old scored two goals in four substitute appearances at the World Cup.

It was claimed that the Red Devils have ‘found happiness’ in Weghorst and that the loan deal is ‘almost complete between the different parties’.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday that there is “nothing done yet” with Weghorst to Man Utd.

Romano explained: “Wout Weghorst position is very clear: he’d love to join Manchester United, he also knows Erik ten Hag would like to sign him so he’s 100% keen on the move.

“Nothing done yet, as Man Utd have to speak to Besiktas/Burnley to proceed with conditions of the deal.”

Weghorst is currently on loan at Besiktas from Burnley and he has provided eight goals and four assists in 18 appearances. He appeared to wave goodbye to the Besiktas supporters over the weekend with an emotional celebration.

Turkish journalist E. Tuna Akdemir, who is the Besiktas correspondent for TRT Spor, wrote on Twitter that in a meeting Weghorst’s representatives ‘officially communicated’ to the Turkish club that their client ‘wants to leave’.

However, a potential move to Man Utd is in Besiktas’ hands as they will have to terminate the loan first before Burnley can agree to send him back out to Man Utd.

And Akdemir adds that Besiktas have outlined two conditions for Weghorst’s return with the Turkish giants insisting they ‘will not approve this transfer without finding [Vincent] Aboubakar or a better alternative’.

Additionally, the journalist claims that Besiktas want to ‘put money into its safe from the departure of its loan player’.
