Liverpool told €40m required as Atalanta midfielder’s agent contacted at Klopp say-so

Koopmeiners Atalanta

Liverpool have reportedly made their interest in Teun Koopmeiners known to the midfielder’s representatives.

The 24-year-old moved to Atalanta from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2021 for around €12m and has made 59 appearances for the Serie A side since, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.

Tutto Atalanta claim Liverpool are ramping up their interest in Koopmeiners, and have made contact with his agency Wasserman to make clear their desire to sign him.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a huge fan of Koopmeiners and is desperate to add to his options in midfield, with growing concerns over the age of his top players in the central area.

A January deal is apparently unlikely, with Liverpool more likely to push for a move in the summer.

Atalanta will reportedly at that point be willing to listen to offers of €40m for Koopmeiners.

The midfielder, who tends to operate in a defensive role, also impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup and could join a growing Dutch contingent at Anfield.

Cody Gakpo made his Liverpool debut on Saturday night in the FA Cup draw with Wolves and admitted after the game that his performance was a tad sloppy.

“[It was a] really great atmosphere,” Gakpo told Liverpoolfc.com. “For my own game, I think I showed some good moments and some sloppy moments. So, I can also still improve on those points and keep working and try to help the team as much as I can.

“Of course you learn the most when you’re playing games, so I’m looking forward [to more].

“I think we played in phases really good football but in the end we didn’t score enough, so that’s a pity. But I think we showed what we could do but we can still improve on some points and let’s work on that.

“I think we showed real team spirit at moments, so that’s good. I think we have to go there [Molineux] with great determination and just go for the win.”
