Williams Called Up To U19 National Team Training Camp

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina men’s soccer freshman Sam Williams has been called up to the United States Under-19 Men’s National Team training camp, taking place Jan. 5-13 at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

Making his U19 debut, Williams joins 22 players in South Florida who are age-eligible for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia. He is also one of only two players at the training camp currently playing at the collegiate level.

A native of Tenafly, New Jersey, Williams started 14 of the 17 matches in which he appeared in during his inaugural season in Chapel Hill and logged a full 90 minutes in four contests. The midfielder amassed two goals and two assists for six points, highlighted by scoring the game-winning goal against ETSU.

Williams was also named to the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team.
