Newcastle ‘want to sign’ Chelsea star in bargain transfer as Blues pursue £105m Liverpool, Man Utd target

Newcastle want Jorginho

Newcastle United reportedly ‘want to sign’ Jorginho from Chelsea and it is possible that they could sign the midfielder on a free transfer in January.

The Magpies appear to be ahead of schedule this season as they look to be in the running to earn a spot in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe took over last season and with the help of significant backing from the club’s new owners in January, he guided them to midtable after they were initially battling to avoid relegation.

Newcastle were busy in the summer as they brought in Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Nick Pope.

This has set them up for a superb start to this season as they currently sit second in the Premier League.

Man City have two games in hand and they will overtake Newcastle if they beat Leeds on Wednesday night.

A challenge for the title may not come this season but they at least look to be in the fight for the Champions League after losing just one of their first 16 league games this term.

The club’s Saudi owners are reportedly ready to back Howe in January. The Daily Mail are reporting that they ‘want to sign’ Jorginho from Chelsea.

Newcastle are ‘interested’ in the Italy international as they look to capitalise on Chelsea’s plan to ‘reduce the average of their squad’.

This could give Newcastle the ability ‘to pick up the Euro 2020 winner in the new year without having to pay a transfer fee’.

Jorginho is out of contract in the summer it is looking increasingly likely that he will move on.

He recently butted heads with Jim White when discussing his future at Chelsea.

“Of course I do, I love Chelsea. But this is a thing I’m not going to think about now. I need to think about winning games. Otherwise it’s a problem,” the 31-year-old said.

“I’ll focus game by game and then we’ll see what’s going to happen. But my mind is on Chelsea now and trying to win as many games as possible.”

White responded: “Every player wants to know their future. You’re no different.”

To which Jorginho bit back: “Maybe I am, you don’t know me! Maybe I don’t think now and I just think about the game on the 27th.”

N’Golo Kante is another experienced Chelsea player who is set to move on in the summer when his contract expires.

The Blues are reportedly looking to replace them with Enzo Fernandez after the Benfica star won the Golden Boy award after helping Argentina win the World Cup for the third time.

The 21-year-old has a £105m release clause in his contract…
