Academic Services November Student-Athletes of the Month


PULLMAN, Wash. (December 28, 2022) – Washington State soccer’s Grayson Lynch and football’s Simon Samarzich were named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for November 2022.

Lynch, a senior from Castle Rock, Colo., owns a 3.81 GPA while majoring in human development and minoring in business administration and communication. The forward has twice been named to the Pac-12 Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, was voted a team captain this past season and was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team. On the field this past season, Lynch started all 19 games, was second on the team with 11 points, four goals, tied for second with three assists and shared the team-lead with a pair of game-winning goals against Cal Poly and Utah.

Samarzich, a senior from Upland, Calif., earned Magna Cum Laude honors with a 3.73 GPA while graduating with a degree in sports management and is currently working towards is master’s degree in sport management with a minor in communication. The four-year starting longsnapper is a two-time Pac-12 Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll selection, has worked as a Pac-Counselor and in the student-development office. On the field, Samarzich was named to the Patrick Mannelly Award Watch List prior to the season, the award given to the nation’s best longsnapper. Last season, Samarzich snapped for All-Pac-12 First Team kicker Dean Janikowski while this season he started all 13 games and snapped for All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention punter Nick Haberer.

Each month Washington State Academic Services honors a male and female student-athlete that demonstrates commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
