Garvanian Selected By CF Montréal In MLS SuperDraft

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina men’s soccer player Milo Garvanian was selected by CF Montréal in the second round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas Wednesday evening. He was taken with the 54th overall pick.

Garvanian, a defender/midfielder, becomes the 51st pick all-time in program history. The Tar Heels have had at least one player selected in the SuperDraft in all but one season since 2005.

The fifth-year led North Carolina in several categories during the 2022 season. He was tied for first on the roster in both goals (4) and assists (4), which included two game-winning goals and two game-winning assists. He was also the outright team leader in points (12) and shots on goal (13).

On the defensive end, Garvanian helped limit opponents to an average of 6.3 shots per game for the lowest among Atlantic Coast Conference teams. He was part of UNC’s back line that held VCU shotless until the 89th minute, the longest streak for holding an opponent without a shot in the ACC all season.

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his team-leading 12 points on the year marked his new single-season best, bringing his career total to 32. He earned a starting role in 68 of his 86 career appearances during his five seasons in Chapel Hill, accumulating nine goals and 14 assists with over 6,500 minutes logged.

Garvanian collected a multitude of accolades this year, highlighted by being named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team. He also earned All-ACC Second Team honors, was tabbed to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and landed on Top Drawer Soccer’s Midseason Top 100 Watch List.
