Man Utd plot ‘new meeting’ with Ronaldo’s ‘main ally’ as Premier League trio target outcast

Man Utd plan player meeting

Man Utd are reportedly hoping to have a ‘new meeting’ with Diogo Dalot as they look to tempt the right-back into signing a long-term contract.

The Red Devils are focused on sorting their right-back situation ahead of the winter transfer window.

Dalot is a player who has perhaps benefitted most from Erik ten Hag’s arrival in the summer.

The Portugal international has been one of United’s standout performers this term as he has come into his own at right-back.

His form has left Aaron Wan-Bissaka way down the pecking order and he has only made one cameo appearance for Man Utd this season.

The defender has struggled to live up to expectations at Old Trafford as his deficiencies going forward have been exposed somewhat.

Man Utd wanted to get rid of Wan-Bissaka in the summer but they were unable to do so as they could not sign a replacement.

They have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to choose from at left-back and it is important for Ten Hag that he has two capable options at the right side of the defence.

Wan-Bissaka may get a fresh start in January as Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Crystal Palace, West Ham and Wolves ‘remain interested’ in him.

‘Manchester United are trying to find a solution for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in order to let him leave. Wolves, West Ham and Crystal Palace remain interested,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

‘Man Utd’s main priority on the right-back situation remains to extend Diogo Dalot’s contract. Talks will take place soon.

‘It’s possible for Dalot to stay and extend the contract, but negotiations will take place in the next weeks with a new meeting.

‘So it’s still early to say how likely it is, but for sure it’s a possibility as Man United will push and Dalot is really appreciated by Ten Hag.

‘Barcelona has followed Dalot for a long time but he’s not going to leave as a free agent in June.’

Dalot is out of contract next year but United have the option to automatically extend his deal by another year.

Ten Hag has already confirmed that they intend to make the most of this option: “We are talking to [Dalot and Marcus Rashford] to extend contracts.

“But we have control because we have an option on all the players and we will exercise those options.”

The defender is said to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘main ally’ at Man Utd and Barcelona are looking to lure him away.

It is suggested that Dalot ‘could welcome a change of scenery’ and an option for him is to ‘consider a transfer’…
