Everton have confirmed Salomon Rondon has left the club with immediate effect after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.
The Venezuelan forward only signed for the Toffees in the summer of 2021, reuniting with manager Rafael Benitez for the third time in his career, but managed just three goals from 23 appearances in all competitions in his debut campaign.
He has been surplus to requirements for the majority of the current campaign in Frank Lampard’s first full season at the helm, making just eight appearances before the World Cup break and failing to score.
A statement on Everton’s official website reads: “Salomon Rondon has left Everton with immediate effect after reaching an agreement with the Club to terminate his contract.
“The Venezuela striker joined the Blues from Chinese team Dalian Professional in August 2021 and made 31 appearances for Everton, starting 13 matches and scoring three goals.
“The 33-year-old’s deal was initially due to end at the end of June 2023.
“Everyone at Everton wishes Salomon all the best for the future.”
Rondon’s departure means Everton are increasingly light in attack when it comes to strikers. The Venezuelan deputised for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has struggled immensely to retain his fitness. Neal Maupay is the only other out-and-out striker in the first team, signing from Brighton this summer.
Maupay has scored just once since signing for Everton, however, with his struggles a summary of the club’s attacking woes. Only one club has scored fewer goals than Lampard’s side so far in the Premier League this season.
They return to action at home to Wolves on Boxing Day.
