Newcastle's next four Premier League fixtures compared to Arsenal, Man City and Tottenham

Newcastle United are having the sort of season that many of their younger fans have never seen before. The Magpies are sitting pretty in third place and enjoying the success that comes with a better coach and a healthy cash injection.

The season started in a relatively steady fashion for Eddie Howe’s side, but it was in October and November when they really hit some impressive form and started to rise up the table. There were high-scoring victories against Fulham and Brentford as well as points being picked up against the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Now they are in third place, are the form team in the league, and are just seven points off of the top, albeit having played a game more than Arsenal and Manchester City.

Here are the four games that Newcastle have got coming up first in the Premier League when play resumes.

Leicester City have been having a very poor season considering the quality of the squad, and Newcastle will be wanting to take advantage of that. Their form has picked up recently and they have risen to 13th in the table, but Newcastle will be confident of three points.

There are a lot of ingredients in place for this to be a thrilling New Year’s Eve game. Leeds will back themselves to find the back of the net against anyone, and Newcastle will certainly expect to score more than once here. Leeds are down in 15th and will want to build a gap between them and the relegation zone.

It is only a section of Newcastle fans who regard the team as a serious title contender, but those fans will know that a defeat here against Arsenal would surely put an end to any such aspirations. The Gunners are at the top and likely still will be when this game comes around in the new year.

Fulham are not an easy team to beat this season and the confidence coming into this one will be largely decided by how the previous three games have gone. It isn’t hard to picture the likes of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton having a great time against what is a very shaky Fulham defence.
