Hansen is joined Jenna Nighswonger of Florida State, Lilly Reale from UCLA and Reyna Reyes from the University of Alabama as the four finalists for the prestigious award.
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 47 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”. The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2023 Honda Cup which will be presented during the live telecast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Presented by Honda on CBS Sports Network in June.
The soccer finalists were selected by a panel of experts and coaches from the United Soccer Coaches. The Honda Sport award winner is determined by a vote administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
A four-year letterman from Raleigh, N.C., Hansen led the Tar Heels to a runner-up finish in the 2022 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship and a share of the ACC regular season title. She was tabbed first-team All-America by College Soccer News after being named a United Soccer Coaches All-America second-team honoree.
She led all Power Five defenders with eight goals during the season, tying for 10th in the ACC in total goals scored. Five of her eight goals scored were via penalty kick, tops in Division I.
Hansen was a first-team All-ACC and All-Atlantic Region selection. She played the full time in 22 matches and logged 2,271 minutes in 26 matches – playing over 1,000 minutes more this season than in 33 matches during the previous three seasons combined.
She was selected to the Top Drawer Women’s National Team-of-the-Week three times and was twice named ACC Defensive Player-of-the-Week.
