Alabama’s Reyna Reyes Named Honda Award Finalist


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama’s Reyna Reyes was selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as one of four finalists for the Honda Sport Award for Soccer, The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) announced Tuesday.  

Reyes is the program’s first student-athlete selected as a finalist for the Honda Award. The senior defender helped lead Alabama to its best performance in program history, including the Tide’s first-ever appearance at the College Cup.

The Tide held a program-record 12 teams scoreless throughout the season including then-No. 5 South Carolina and then-No. 18 Clemson. With the help of Reyes on the backline, UA finished the year with a 76-20 goal differential. UA defeated six ranked teams throughout the season, including then-No. 8 Duke in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament and finished the year undefeated at home.

  • Three-time first-team All-SEC honoree
  • Two-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region first-team selection and four-time All-Region honoree
  • Anchored the backline to a program-record 12 shutouts and 23 wins
  • The team ranked 32nd nationally in goals-against average (0.735) and outscored its opponents 76-20
  • Notched eight goals, third-most on the team, and recorded an assist for 17 points on the season
  • Scored the game-winning goal against Utah Valley and in overtime against Duke in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals
  • College Sports Communicator Academic All-America third-team honoree
  • Member of the 2021 Mexican National Team

Honda Award

  • The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 47 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”
  • The winner of the award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2023 Honda Cup
  • Both the Collegiate Woman of the Year and Honda Cup award will be presented during the live telecast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Presented by Honda on CBS Sports Network in June
