Man Utd make ‘crazy €95m offer’ to sign ‘Croatian jewel’ as they battle Chelsea for defender

Man Utd-linked Gvardiol

According to reports, Man Utd have already made a ‘crazy offer’ to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig as the race to sign the defender hots up.

Gvardiol looks set to get a big move away from RB Leipzig in the coming months.

The 20-year-old has been a key player for the Bundesliga side since the start of the 2020/21 campaign and his performances for Croatia at the World Cup are doing his reputation no harm.

His recent form has likely driven his price up even further. Leipzig are in a strong position as in September he signed a new contract that extended his deal until 2027.

Speaking on this extension, he said: “I’m very happy to have extended the contract early until 2027, because I still want to achieve a lot with RB Leipzig.

“I feel the club’s confidence to continue my development. We’re in the Champions League again, won the DFB Cup last year and want to play for titles again this year.

“I am very grateful to those responsible at the club that they plan long-term with me and want to continue on this successful path with me.”

Gvardiol signed a new contract after it was revealed that Chelsea had submitted an ‘official €90m proposal’ to sign him in the summer.

Foot Mercato are now reporting that Gvardiol has ‘been tracked by the biggest European clubs for several months’.

Now some clubs have ‘submitted a proposal’ to Leipzig as they attempt to move ahead of the competition.

The report confirms Chelsea’s proposal and suggests that Man City and Man Utd have both also ‘submitted a firm proposal’.

The bid from City is said to ‘exceed €100m including bonuses’. This is while the offers from Chelsea and Man Utd are ‘close to €90-95m’.

Gvardiol is described as the ‘Croatian jewel’ and clubs around Europe are also keen to recruit him.

Unsurprisingly, Bayern Munich are keen. A meeting between them and the player’s representatives is ‘already planned’. Real Madrid and Barcelona are also ‘interested’.

Liverpool and PSG meanwhile are not in the running as they are focusing on strengthening in different positions.

Man Utd spent around £56m to sign Lisandro Martinez in the summer and he has often played alongside Raphael Varane in defence this season.

Harry Maguire meanwhile has fallen down the pecking order and it is yet to be seen if his strong performances at the World Cup will boost his chances of featuring more under Erik ten Hag.

It was previously reported that the Englishman will be sold next…
