Houston Dynamo to make Micael loan permanent

The Houston Dynamo are set to make Brazilian center-back Micael’s loan from Atletico Mineiro permanent this winter, according to reports.

Micael joined the Dynamo in late April and mainly went on to feature for the club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Houston Dynamo 2, appearing 18 times at that level and scoring once.

The 22-year-old also made one senior appearance in Major League Soccer, coming off the bench in the Dynamo’s 3-2 defeat to CF Montreal in August.

According to Brazilian journalist Fred Ribeiro, Micael has done enough to convince the Dynamo to make his loan permanent, with the Texas club understood to be paying Atletico Mineiro $500k for his signature.

MLSsoccer.com’s Tom Bogert also added that a $500k purchase option was included in Micael’s original loan.

This move will be the latest step as the Dynamo prepare for life under new head coach Ben Olsen, who will look to improve on the club’s miserable 13th-place finish in the Western Conference last season.

The Dynamo have failed to make the MLS Cup Playoffs in each of their last five seasons.
