Deschamps & Lloris Heap Praise on Mbappe After Double

Kylian Mbappe earned praise from France boss Didier Deschamps after his double helped them seal a 2-1 win over Denmark and a spot in the World Cup last 16.

Les Bleus became the first nation to clinch their progress to the knockout stage, with the world champions scoring twice in the second half either side of Andreas Christensen’s goal.

Mbappe was on hand for both goals, firstly converting Theo Hernandez’s pass in the 61st minute, before chesting in Antoine Griezmann’s back-post ball in the 86th minute.

The Paris Saint-Germain star scored and provided an assist against Australia in France’s opening 4-1 win too.

“Hes a leader,” Deschamps told reporters. “I dont think leadership has one face. Kylian doesn’t speak, he’s not very talkative.

“However, he’s like a steam train on the pitch. He’s the one that gets the crowd going.

“Kylian’s always got the same responsibility. He knows the French team need him, and we need him to be at his best.

“The proof is in the pudding from the first two games.”

France captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was glowing in his praise of 23-year-old Mbappe.

“Weve got other very good players of course but Kylian is in a league of his own and its up to us to find the right balance and the ideal way to get the best out of him,” Lloris said.

“Everyones playing their part but its great for him that hes kicked off the tournament so well well need Kylian to be on top form if were going to go deep.”

Mbappe has already become the first French player to score three goals or more at consecutive World Cups, having played a key role in their 2018 triumph as a teenager.
