Six Women's Soccer Players Named to College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

PITTSBURGH – Six Pitt women’s soccer players have been named to the 2022 Academic All-District® 2 Team, selected by College Sports Communicators. Representing the Panthers are sophomore midfielder Bri Hilsenteger, senior goalkeeper Caitlyn Lazzarini, senior midfielder Landy Mertz, sophomore defender Ashley Moon, sophomore forward Sarah Schupansky and junior midfielder Emily Yaple.

The 2022 Academic All-District® Women’s Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced in early December.

Pitt’s six honorees have helped lead the Panthers to their most successful season in program history, setting team records for wins (13), points (131) and goals (45) in a single season. The Panthers punched tickets to the ACC Championship and NCAA Championship fields for the first time in program history. Pitt earned its first NCAA Tournament win last Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Buffalo in the First Round.

No. 19-ranked Pitt (13-4-3, 5-3-2 ACC) looks to continue its postseason as it squares off against No. 18-ranked Georgetown (15-1-5, 8-0-2 Big East) in the 2022 NCAA Championship Second Round Friday at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla. The contest is slated to get underway at 2 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
