No. 1 seed Alabama Soccer Battles Portland in NCAA Tournament Second Round Friday


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the second consecutive year, Alabama (20-2-1) will compete in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as the Crimson Tide hosts Portland on Friday at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. The game between No. 1 seed Alabama and No. 8 seed Portland will kick off at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

The Game

  • Eighth-seeded Portland (12-4-4): Friday, Nov. 18 – 6 p.m. CT, on ESPN+
  • Fans can follow the action via the team’s official Twitter account, @AlabamaSoccer
  • Friday’s game marks the first time Alabama and Portland have met on the pitch
  • Brown and UC Irvine will compete prior to UA’s match on Friday with the Bears and Anteaters kicking off at 3 p.m. CT at the Alabama Soccer Stadium

The Tide at the NCAA Tournament

  • The 2022 season marked the first time Alabama competed as an NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed in addition to the first time the program has hosted an NCAA Tournament game
  • Alabama captured its second NCAA Tournament win, advancing to the second round with a 9-0 victory over Jackson State last Friday (11/11)
  • With the win, Alabama advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round for the second consecutive year
  • UA earned its second straight berth to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and its fifth overall appearance in the tournament

Setting the New Standard

  • Alabama has set seven team records this season, setting the new standard for points (200), goals (68), assists (64), shots (470), shots on goal (199), wins (20) and shutouts (12).
  • Riley Mattingly Parker holds the UA record for points (39), goals (16) and game-winning goals (7) in a single season, while tying as the program leader in career game-winning goals (10)
  • Felicia Knox broke the Tide record for assists with 19 and career assists with 24
  • In net, McKinley Crone holds a program-record 20 single-season wins and 38 career wins, in addition to holding a UA-record 10 shutouts this year to tie for most career shutouts in an Alabama uniform with 21
  • Additionally, Alabama set the facility record for attendance, welcoming 1,882 people to the Alabama Soccer Stadium for the Tide’s match against Florida (10/23)

  • Alabama enters the tournament as the top-ranked team according to TopDrawerSoccer and No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll
