Five Wolverines Named CSC Academic All-District

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Five University of Michigan men’s soccer student-athletes — graduate students Kevin Buca and Declan Gaffney, seniors Brennan Callow and Christian Pulselli and sophomore Hayden Evans — were named to the 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.

All five Wolverines garnered the honor for the first time, moving forward onto the national ballot with the Academic All-America teams to be announced at the end of November.

Buca is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a 2021 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. He returned for a fifth year and is in the Masters of Electrical Engineering program at Michigan. The Rochester, Mich., native appeared in 10 matches with nine starts before missing the remainder of his final season due to injury. Buca scored one goal and added one assist this season to end his career with nine goals and seven assists in 66 matches.

Gaffney is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a 2021 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar after graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in 2021. He returned for his fifth year as a graduate student and is pursuing his masters in sport management. Gaffney appeared in 14 matches with eight starts and logged 853 minutes on the pitch with one assist in 2022. The Los Angeles, Calif., native ends his career with 47 appearances and 2,549 minutes.

Callow is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and is set to graduate with a degree in biomedical engineering. Off the field, he is heavily involved in the Michigan Athletes Towards Careers in Healthcare club where he facilitated the 2022 Athletes in Medicine Medical Conference. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native started 12 matches in 2022 as he scored one goal and added three assists. In his four seasons as a Wolverine, Callow appeared in 28 matches and has nine points with three goals and three assists.

Pulselli is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and will graduate with a degree in movement science. The senior forward saw action in 12 matches with four starts and scored two goals, including the game-winner against Gonzaga this season.
