Five Buffs Selected Academic All-District


BOULDER – Five Colorado soccer student-athletes were named 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District the association announced on Tuesday.
 
Jade Babcock-Chi, Hannah Cardenas, Civana Kuhlmann, Jayden Newkirk and Hannah Sharts were among the honorees that will now be eligible for selection to the Academic All-America teams that will be announced in early December.
 
Babcock-Chi, a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection, started 15 of the 16 matches she appeared in. The Del Mar, Calif., native handed out a career-high three assists this season. She played in 1,012 minutes this season and twice played full-time.  
 
Cardenas, a three-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection and a 2018 Pac-12 Second Team All-Academic selection returned to the pitch this season after missing the entire 2021 season. The Placentia, Calif., native started 15 and played in 19 matches in her final season. She helped solidify the Buffs’ backline, helping the team earn six shutouts.
 
Kuhlmann, a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll honoree and a 2018 Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention, put up her best career numbers in her lone season at CU. She started all 19 matches she played and contributed 12 goals, six assists and 30 points. She finished her season ranked 19th in the NCAA in points and 20th in points per game (1.58).
 
Newkirk, a 2021 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection, scored her first career goal this season against Omaha. She recorded a career-high two assists to finish with a career-best four points. The junior from Cypress, Calif., was a part of five shutouts this season.
 
Sharts, a 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-American, earned her second Academic All-District selection. The fifth-year senior from Newbury, Park, Calif., started 18 matches and appeared in all 20 for the Buffs this season. She scored two goals this season and added an assist, closing with five points. She led CU with 1,457 minutes played on the defensive end, helping guide CU to six shutouts.
